Jo und Beth sprechen nicht über ihr Hobby, sie sprechen auch nicht über ihre Freizeit oder ihren Lieblingsplatz. Nein! Die Beiden reden über ihre Arbeit für den Laden "Make".
"Make is a one-of-the-kind-store." - Beth
"Make" ist nicht nur der Name, sondern auch ihre Philosophie.
Den Laden "Make" findet man zwischen all den touristischen Läden auf Granville Island. Es ist erfrischend, dass es zwischen dem Maple Sirup und den Bären-T-Shirts auch noch was anständiges gibt. "Make" ist ein Ort, wo man aussergewöhnliche Souvenirs findet, aber auch ganz spezielle, persönliche Geschenke designen kann.
Den Laden "Make" findet man zwischen all den touristischen Läden auf Granville Island. Es ist erfrischend, dass es zwischen dem Maple Sirup und den Bären-T-Shirts auch noch was anständiges gibt. "Make" ist ein Ort, wo man aussergewöhnliche Souvenirs findet, aber auch ganz spezielle, persönliche Geschenke designen kann.
Im Laden kann man allerlei Sachen gestalten, der neuste Hit nennt sich "Mighty prints". Vom Kragen bis zum Rand, hinten und vorne, dein ganz persönliches Bild. Ihr braucht ein paar Ideen? Das Team hat da mal ein paar für euch:

Wenn du aber keine Zeit hast, irgendwelche total hipsterigen Sachen anzufertigen, dann kannst du auch ganz einfach im Laden stöbern, du findest auf jeden Fall was. Als meine Freundin Carla hier war, hat sie doch gleich für die ganze Familie Souvernirs gekauft.
Wenn man den Laden von "Make" betritt, dann wird man sofort in eine Wolke der Kreativitat eingehüllt. Nachdem ich mit der Managerin Beth und der Ankäuferin Jo gesprochen habe, wurde mir auch klar warum. Nicht nur der Laden ist extrem kreativ, auch das Team. Es ist ein Ort mit der vollen Ladung Kreativität. Beth hat früher Kinderbücher illustriert und Jo ist Grafik Designer. Wenn man bei "Make" arbeiten möchte, dann sollte man eine kreative Ader haben - ob singen, tanzen, Grafiken designen oder Künstlerin sein. Man muss einfach ein wenig Glitzer in seinen Venen haben.
Ein anderes Gefühl, das einem beim Betreten des Ladens überkommt, ist reine Überforderung. Wo soll ich zuerst hinschauen? Die Eulen-Kissen, der Schmucktisch, die T-Shirt Wand - alles ist so vielversprechend. Deshalb habe ich Jo und Beth gefragt, was denn ihre Lieblingsstücke sind, um euch einen Anhaltspunkt zu geben.
Jo nennt sich selber ein wenig nerdy, deshalb liebt sie auch all die vielen nerdy Sachen, die "Make" im Sortiment hat. Schaut sie euch an, eine Geisterlanpe und eine Tetrislampe :)

Beth liebt die kleinen "Baumstamm-Kissen" wie ich die jetzt mal nenne. Sie hat ihrem Vater schon eines gekauft, da sie der Meinung ist, dass das die besten Kissen überhaupt sind! Perfekt für einen gemütlichen Winterabend vor dem Kamin mit einer Tasse Tee und einem guten Buch!
Durch den Kauf von Souveniers bei "Make" unterstützt man immer auch unabhängige und selbständige Künstler. Jo und ihre Chefin reisen mehrere Male im Jahr durch ganz Nordamerika, um auf Kunstmessen und -Märkte zu gehen. Finden sie etwas, dass genau dem Konzept des Ladens entspricht, beginnen sie mit dem entsprechenden Künstler oder Designer zu arbeiten. Doch nicht alles wird ausserhalb gemacht, einige Dinge werden auch direkt im Laden angefertigt.
Zum Schluss möchte ich euch natürlich nicht vorenthalten, wer Beth und Jo sind, schliesslich habe ich eine wunderbare Zeit bei ihnen im Laden verbracht.

Jo and Beth are both not talking about their hobby or their free time or their favourite place to go. No! They talk about work. Work at a shop called "Make".
"Make is a one-of-the-kind-store." - Beth
But "Make" is not just the name, it's the philosophy of the store.
You can find the store "Make" between all the touristic stores on Granville Island. It's refreshing to have a store where you can buy more than just maple syrup and moose shirts. "Make" is a place where you buy special souvenirs and especially personalized gifts.
There are many things that you can design in the store. But the newest thing of the "make"-store is the Mighty prints. Top to the bottom and back to front - a whole t-shirt just with your very favourite picture. Need some ideas? Let me show you some!

Not your thing? No problem, "make" has a lot more to offer. For example embroidery. You can embroider on everything - shirts, caps, bags, cooking apron... There are no boundaries for your creativity!

Another thing that you experience when you enter the store is that you don't really know where to look first. It's just overwhelming! That's why I asked Jo and Beth for their favourite items, just to give you a hint where to start :)
So, Jo calls herself a little bit nerdy, that's why she loves all the nerdy stuff in the store. She picked to items which are pretty new in the store and which are definitely nerdy. Let's have a look!

Beth loves the log pillows. She already got one for her dad and it's one of the most comfortable pillows, she says. There is another thing, Beth thinks it's pretty funny - the wind-up toys. There are fun for the whole family!
Buying at the "Make" store, also means to support independent artists and designers. Jo and her boss travel a couple of times during the year through whole North America to visit craft markets and gift shows. If they find something that fits into their store, they start working with the designer or the artist.
But not everything is produced somewhere else, some things get produced right inside the shop.
Last but not least, I let you know who Jo and Beth are. Of course, I had to take a picture after that great time with them in the store. :)
