Escaping the noise of the city - Queen Elizabeth Park

Das Leben in der Grossstadt kann manchmal ganz schön hektisch sein – vor allem, wenn man selber auf dem Lande aufgewachsen ist. Daher geniesse ich es, manchmal dem ganzen Lärm zu entfliehen und ein bisschen zu entschleunigen (jaja, das Wort musste hier einfach verwendet werden 😊) Einer meiner Lieblingsorte, um ein wenig zu entspannen und die Seele baumeln zu lassen, ist der Queen Elizabeth Park. Hier treffen Locals auf Touristen – die Locals kommen hierher, um Golf zu spielen, zu Slacklinen oder, so wie ich, zur Erholung. Die Touristen zieht es hierher wegen der grossartigen Aussicht über die Stadt.

Wie erreiche ich den Queen Elizabeth Park?

Am einfachsten erreichst du den Park mit dem Skytrain, die lokale Metro. Nimm die Canada Line bis zur King Edward Station und geh dann zu Fuss die leicht ansteigende Strasse hoch. Nach etwa 10 Minuten siehst du auch schon die ersten Ausläufe des Parks. Der Park ist ziemlich gross und man verläuft sich sehr leicht. Glücklicherweise hat es überall Schilder und mein Tipp: Immer in Richtung Bloedel Conservatory, das steht genau in der Mitte des Parks neben der Aussichtsplattform.

Was kann man in diesem Park alles machen?

Wahrscheinlich fragt ihr euch, warum ihr genau in einen Park solltet, wenn es doch so viel anderes zu entdecken gibt in einer Grossstadt. Die Antwort ist ganz einfach: Hier hab ihr die beste Aussicht über die Stadt, vor allem auf Downtown und die Berge dahinter. Hier sind ein paar Bilder, die ich über die letzten Jahre gemacht habe:

Falls ihr die Stadt im Sommer besucht, solltet ihr unbedingt ZIP-Linen (Keine Ahnung, ob es dafür auch ein deutsches Wort gibt). Ein riesen Spass!! Die Zip-Line ist relativ kurz, aber man erreicht ein sehr hohes Tempo und ein kleiner Adrenalin-Kick ist garantiert.

Ausserdem gibt es im Queen Elizabeth Park auch eine tropische Gartenanlage, natürlich Indoor, Vancouver ist ja nicht für seine tropischen Temperaturen bekannt. :) Das Bloedel Conservatory befindet sich mitten im Park, unübersehbar mit einer grossen, glässernen Kuppel. Ich war persönlich noch nie dort, aber ich habe bis jetzt nur Gutes gehört. Ein bisschen überteuert vielleicht! :) 

Natürlich darf auch das kleine, romantische Plätzchen im Park nicht fehlen. Letzten Sommer hat die Stadt zwei Skulpturen aus Metall im Park installiert, damit Pärchen ihr Liebesschloss anbringen können. Ganz nach dem Vorbild von Paris. Wir waren schon am zweiten Tag dort und haben, ganz kitschig, auch ein Schloss angebracht. Kürzlich haben wir überprüft, ob es noch da hängt - und welch Glück, es ist noch da. :) 

Zu guter Letzt gibt es natürlich noch ein tolles, schickes Restaurant im Park, gleich neben der Aussichtsplattform. Sprich, man hat auch dort eine Wahnsinnsaussicht. Für einen Besuch muss man ein bisschen tiefer ins Portmonnaie greifen, aber es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.

Ich hoffe, ihr werdet den Queen Elizabeth Park auf jeden Fall mal besuchen, wenn es euch nach Vancouver treibt.

ENGLISH VERSION

Living in a city as a girl from the country side can be overwhelming from time to time. For that reason, I love to escape sometimes – just away from the crowd and the people and into the green.

On of my favorite spots in the city to relax and slow down is Queen Elizabeth Park.  A colorful park, full of flowers, little bridges, and hidden benches. It’s a place where locals meet tourists - locals come here to play golf, to slackline or to relax, while the amazing view attracts the tourists.

How do I get there?

The easiest way to get to Queen Elizabeth Park is by skytrain. Take the Canada Line to King Edward station and then walk up the street until you see the first green areas. That’s were the park begins. You can easily get lost in the park, as it is quite big. There are many signs to keep you on track, but if you’re completely lost, head to the Bloedel conservatory, that’s the middle of the park and right next to the viewing platform.

What can you do there?

You are here as a tourist and you’re asking yourself why the hell you should check out a park? Well, you just get the the best view from Queen Elizabeth Park. Nowhere in the city, you will have a better view on the city, especially on downtown and the mountains around it. Here are some shots that I took over the last years:

If you’re in the city during summer, I can highly recommend you the ZIP line at Queen Elizabeth Park. It is so much fun!! It’s a really short ride but super fast and definitely good for a little kick of adrenaline.

There is also a conservatory – the Bloedel Conservatory, an indoor tropical garden. Honestly, I’ve never been there but I only heard good things about it. You can’t miss the conservatory, it’s right in the middle of the park with a little cupola.

There is also a really romantic spot at Queen Elizabeth Park, perfect for my fully-romantic heart. There are two sculptures out of metal for couples to put love locks. The idea is inspired by the bridge in Paris where couple attach locks as a sign of love. They installed the sculptures last summer and we were there on day two as one of the first couples to attach our love lock. Recently, we went to check if our lock is still there, luckily it is. 

Last but not least, there is also a great restaurant in Queen Elizabeth Park, which is on top of my “to-go” list. The view there is amazing and the huge glass windows make sure that you can enjoy that great view. Just make sure that you bring a bigger wallet. :)
