Last week, Eduardo and me attended the Diner au Blanc in Vancouver. An amazing event with 6000 participants all completely in white and in a fantastic mood.
Never heard of that so-called "Diner au Blanc"? So that's how it works: You have to sign in and hope that one year you will get an invitation for the event. Eduardo signed in last year and lucky us, he already got an invitation this year. We talked to people who were waiting for five years. So, we got an invitation this year. We booked a spot and a bottle of wine and waited until we got more information. 48 hours before the event, you receive an email where to meet. Our meeting point was at Londsdale Quay but that wasn't the only meeting point in the city, people were meeting all over the city. From Londsdale Quay we went to the secret location where the event was about to happen. On our way there we were joined by more and more people, all in white, all on their way to the secret location.
What did we have to bring? Everything! :) You have to show up all in white, belt, socks, earrings, bag, even the undies - everything should be white (even though some people have some items that are not white). Then you have to bring a table and two chairs, cutlery, glasses, plates, napkins and of course food. And everything has to be white.
When we arrived at the secret location, which was in our case next to Science World, we built up our table, got the wine and started to eat and chat with our neighbors.
We brought some bread, cheese and meat to start, then we got the main course from the Keg's and as a dessert we had some strawberries with chocolate. It was really delicious, way too much tough! ;)
What was our favorite thing to do? We loved to check out all the outfits and tables - some people were soo creative!! One group obviously got their dresses from a theater costume rental, they looked like back in the days.
During the event, a gymnastic was performing and there were live bands with great swing music. At the end of the Diner au Blanc, a great band made people stand up from their nice tables and hit the dance floor.
At 10pm the nice party at the waterside was over, so we packed our stuff and headed home - with all the people in white. Even on our way home I couldn't stop looking at all the people that were so nicely dressed. For the people that were still in a party mood, there was the possibility to go to a night club but we wanted to keep the evening classy. :)
We definitely want to go again to the Diner au Blanc, so let's hope we will get an invitation again next year. This is really a special event and if you've never been, you should definitely check out if there is one in your city. The Diner au Blanc became really popular, so you can find it all over the world.
